The SAHD Life #1
I am going to try to keep all of you updated on the ups and downs of my life as a part-time SAHD (Stay-At-Home-Dad) in a series I like to call, "The SAHD Life."
So, in a recent study, it was discovered that the very act of holding dolls lowered testosterone levels. This really doesn’t frighten me … well, it does make me feel a little unsettled. Once late September rolls around, Baby Girl Soto will be a major part of my day, afternoons, nights and unbelievably early mornings. Soon after that come the tea parties with pretend, fluffy and dolly friends joining in on the imaginary fun around a pink table.
Will my burly, burly manliness dissipate because of a doll? And, what will Gideon think of all this?
You see, Gideon, Alexa and I have a very tight schedule that seems to be working ok. It works like this. Whenever Gideon’s is not napping or with Alexa during her lunch/dinner hour, I am working. I also let him watch some of his favorite shows on TV while I get some work done. I also have a few mornings free to work without interruption because Alexa works from 1 - 9pm on some days.
When I'm not working, I read to him -- one of his favorite books is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? . On nice days we go to the backyard to practice stair climbing, toss the ball and provide answers to some of Gideon's deepest questions about life ... like "dadtie?" And, I answer, "Yes, Gideon we are outside."
I then run after him inside our apartment making sure he’s not irking the cat. There’s the feeding and the diaper changing ... oh, and let's not forget the jumping and wrestling with daddy. I'm beat just thinking about it all.
Some days I take him to story time at the Library and take advantage of the fact that all the women who work there want to say hi to him. I pull out and my laptop and try to sneak in about a half hour worth of work.
Now there is talk of taking him to open gym a local daycare to he can shake his sillies out (just one of the many songs I sing during storytime).
In late September, all this will change. I'm still trying to figure out how I'll get any work done, but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. So what will Gideon think about Daddy's little girl? And, how will Daddy keep Gideon quiet enough to avoid waking up Daddy's little girl? How will Daddy and Gideon wrestle, while Baby Soto Girl is so close by. All good questions.
